Development skills for employment

Skill Development with an eye on employment is the need of the hour and Atrangi Duniya is a widely known NGO working for Skill Development in Delhi/NCR since 2012. There is a growing realization that having an educational degree, does not always help in getting a job commensurate with one’s qualification. However, a minimum qualification of Class X combined with some vocational skill leads to employment opportunities.
Our Aim :-
- To expand the earning capability of the marginalized sections of society, thus bringing them into the mainstream, by teaching vocational skills;
- To empower underprivileged students /adults by providing sustainable livelihood leading to economic independence;
- Special attention to school drop outs with a minimum qualification of Class X.
Knowledge of computers is a pre-requisite today for better performance in any job and a help in career growth. At the end of the training, they are examined and given Certificates. More than 90% our students pass with an ‘A’ Grade.
Efforts are made to place the qualified students in Computer Operations jobs – such as Data Entry Operator, Accounts Assistant, Receptionist, Cash Memo Co-ordinator, Bank Executive etc.
A record is maintained of the placements. More than 2000 Students have successfully completed this program and most of them have secured jobs.
Funded by the Delhi Government, this vocational training was started in 2010 in our Gender Resource Center (GRC) . For 7 years, every six months, 50 women, drawn from the 16 slums near our Center, were trained, examined and awarded Certificates. After the closure of the GRC in 2016, our Center is currently run in collaboration with SINGER & Rotary Club of Delhi. The trainees follow the syllabus approved by SINGER, designed to create employment opportunities for them. Besides the prescribed syllabus, the women are also taught to make wall hangings, fancy bags, purses, files & folders which are sold at Diwali Melas and other forums.
The aim is to provide Cutting & Tailoring Skills to underprivileged girls /women with a view to help them earn a living by stitching clothes from their homes (self-employment) or get a job at a boutique / export house and supplement the family income, to improve their quality of life. After the training, We provides hand holding support to help the beneficiaries open their own tailoring shop individually or as a collective.
